About FishingChief
FishingChief was created for one simple reason: to provide clear, useful answers to the questions anglers actually have.
My name is Dejan, and I’m an angler from Croatia. I spend most of my fishing time on freshwater rivers and lakes, and fishing has been a major part of my life for years.
I’m not a professional tournament angler, and I’m certainly not going to pretend that I know everything there is to know about fishing. Croatia has a serious competitive fishing tradition, particularly in carp fishing, and there are anglers here operating at a level far beyond mine.
But I do fish. A lot.

And I’ve never limited myself to just one style of fishing.
Over the years I’ve fished across a range of freshwater disciplines, including carp fishing, feeder fishing, spinning, live-bait fishing and other general coarse-fishing techniques. Sometimes I’m waiting behind rods for carp, sometimes I’m fishing a feeder, and other times I’m covering water with a spinning rod looking for predators.
That variety is a big part of what led to FishingChief.
What FishingChief Is About
FishingChief is primarily an informational fishing website, with a strong emphasis on freshwater fishing.
The goal is to answer practical questions about fish behavior, conditions, techniques, bait, tackle, equipment, and all the little variables that can make the difference between a productive session and several hours staring at motionless water.
Some questions can be answered largely through experience.
Others deserve more than somebody saying, “This works for me.”
Whenever reliable research, fisheries information, manufacturer specifications, scientific data, or other credible evidence can help answer a question, I want FishingChief to use it.
The idea isn’t to make fishing unnecessarily complicated or scientific. It’s to separate useful information from assumptions, myths, and advice that gets repeated simply because anglers have been repeating it for decades.
Experience Where It Matters. Evidence Where It Helps.
My own experience is primarily on rivers and lakes, and that naturally influences the subjects covered on FishingChief.
Fishing across different disciplines has also taught me that there is rarely one universal answer.
A tactic that works brilliantly for carp may make little sense when targeting predators. A productive river approach can be completely wrong for a stillwater. Water temperature, depth, flow, season, weather, baitfish, fishing pressure, and countless other factors can change what the right decision looks like.
That is why I don’t want FishingChief to simply tell you that something “works.”
Where possible, I want to explain why it works, when it works, when it probably won’t, and what you can do differently when conditions change.
Personal experience has its place, but it also has limits. When something can be checked against reliable evidence, it should be.
Every article published on FishingChief is reviewed with that in mind.
Fishing will always involve experimentation, local knowledge, and a fair amount of uncertainty. That’s part of what makes it interesting.
But the better we understand what is happening below the surface, the better decisions we can make above it.
Fish Smarter.
